NeST/SCNARC Celebrates Five Years, Begins Next Five Years of Support
SCNARC and NeST will celebrate it's 5th anniversary on September 28, 2014 and will begin another five years of support from the Army Research Laboratory (ARL). Over the past five years SCNARC has been supported by over $10 million in grants from ARL and additional support was received from other agencies (ONR, DTRA, ARO, DARPA, IARPA, and NSF). The ARL has elected to exercise the next five year option for SCNARC; on September 28 the center will receive an approved amount of over $4 million for the next two years of which over $2.2 million will support research at Rensselaer. The Rensselaer SCNARC faculty includes Sibel Adali, Jim Hendler, Heng Ji, Gyorgy Korniss, Malik Magdon Ismail, and Boleslaw Szymanski from the School of Science as well as Al Wallace from the School of Engineering. The research of SCNARC has catapulted recognition of RPI in the areas of social networks and network science. Center faculty gave numerous keynote presentations at leading conferences, won several best papers awards, and currently hold positions at scientific boards and editorial boards of leading journals. Most importantly, the center has been at the forefront of world class research on social and information networks, dynamic process in networks, trust, semantically aware networking, infrastructure resilience, and global risks. They have launched several new classes on social networks, social incentives, and network science, and faculty promotions were helped by the center activities.
