Defense Threat Reduction Agency Announces Success Stories

On September 22, 2014 Defense Threat Reduction Agency announced its success stories including Reducing Unintended Collateral Damage in Military Operations:
Professors Gyorgy Kornis and Boleslaw Szymanski from NeST/SCNARC have developed techniques to show an anticipated outage as it cascades through large-scale
infrastructure networks such as communications, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, or power generation and distribution systems. One
research conclusion is that hardening individual components of such networks indiscriminately can actually lead to an overall decrease in the resilience of
the network as a result of higher order cascade (domino) effects. Such research also provides insights for efficient and cost-effective ways to protect
networks against WMD effects. For details see http://dtra.mil/research/ta2-success-stories/ta2-success-story-1
